NJIT’s College of Science and Liberal Arts (CSLA) held a New Jersey STEM Month event with about 140 8th-10th graders from Hillside, Newark, and Morris Plains schools. Students explored STEM Majors and Careers in Science and Liberal Arts. After welcomes by Vice Provost Dr. Laurent Simon and Dean of CSLA Dr. Kevin Belfield, students cycled through hands-on STEAM sessions hosted by the Theater Arts and Technology program (Prof. Courtney Self), the Chemistry and Environmental Science department (Prof. Lijie Zhang) and the Forensic Science program (Prof. David Fisher). Students also participated in an Academic Fair with tables hosted by the CSLA Deans Office, the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Federated Department of History, the Department of Mathematical Sciences, the Department of Physics, and the Air Force ROTC. Additional tables were hosted by student groups, Society for Hispanic Professional Engineers, Society for Women Engineers, and the Minerva Creative Writing Club. During lunch, NJIT student athletes, students from various majors and STEM for Success high school interns circulated to discuss college life with attendees. The event concluded with a presentation about NJIT by Steve Eck of the NJIT Admissions Office.
